Idealidad, substancialismo y relacionismo. Física y metafísica en el problema de la naturaleza del tiempo

Abstract

El artículo presenta diversas temáticas sobre la naturaleza y la metafísica del tiempo. Temas como la dirección del tiempo, la dimensionalidad de los objetos, el flujo temporal, el cambio, el presentismo, el eternalismo, etc., se analizan y evalúan respecto a las tres teorías más significativas sobre la naturaleza del tiempo: (1) substancialismo, el tiempo es “algo” que existe independientemente de las cosas; (2) relacionismo, el tiempo es una relación entre las cosas; (3) kantismo, el tiempo es una condición subjetiva de nuestra sensibilidad. El análisis nos conduce a identificar que tanto la física como la metafísica, aportan diversas reflexiones que permiten concebir que quizá el tiempo no “sea algo que subsista por sí mismo”, con lo que la visión kantiana podría cobrar sentido, dada a su vez la imagen del tiempo que arroja la teoría de la relatividad.

The article presents various topics on the nature and metaphysics of time. Topics such as the direction of time, the dimensionality of objects, temporal flow, change, presentism, eternalism, etc., are analyzed and evaluated with respect to the three most significant theories about the nature of time: (1) substantialism, time is "something" that exists independently of things; (2) relationism, time is a relationship between things; (3) Kantianism, time is a subjective condition of our sensitivity. The analysis leads us to identify that both physics and metaphysics provide various reflections that allow us to conceive that perhaps time is not "something that subsists by itself", with which the Kantian vision could make sense, given in turn the image of time that the theory of relativity throws.
