Se destaca que, para la selección de la medida de tendencia central en cada investigación, es preciso identificar el nivel de medición de la variable, ya que este determinará los atributos de los parámetros en los cuales será medida. Una inadecuada selección de estos estadísticos podría desembocar en una interpretación inadecuada de los datos, generando conclusiones poco confiables.; The aim of the present article is to describe the bases of the statistical analysis in the academic investigationsframed in the positivism, emphasizing in the measures of central tendency, since they allow the interpretation ofthe data obtained from a study group, in terms of its behavior around a particular study variable. In order to selectthe appropriate central tendency for each investigation, it is necessary to identify the level of measurement inwhich the variable is located, since it will determine the attributes corresponding to the parameters in which itwill be measured. Se administró un cuestionario a una muestra seleccionada al azar de 95 estudiantes de 2º y 2º de EFL en el Departamento de Lengua Inglesa, Facultad de Humanidades, Universidad de Zakho, Región del Kurdistán, Iraq, durante el segundo trimestre del año académico 2016-2017. Los datos cuantitativos y cualitativos recolectados a través del cuestionario revelan que (1) los estudiantes de la muestra tienen características lingüísticas efectivas mientras aprenden EFL, y (2) no hay diferencias estadísticamente significativas entre los estudiantes masculinos y femeninos en función del género en general.; This study attempts to investigate the linguistic characteristics of EFL university students. A questionnaire has been administered to a randomly selected sample of 95 EFL 2nd year and 3rd students at the Dept. of English Language, College of Humanities, University of Zakho, Kurdistan Region, Iraq during the second term of the academic year 2016-2017. The qualitative and qualitative data collected by means of the questionnaire reveal that (1) students in the sample have effective linguistic characteristics while learning EFL, and (2) there is no statistically significant differences between the male and female students on the basis of gender in general. 2019-01-01T00:00:00Z
