SERTULUM TERNSTROEMIACEARUM, IV. SINOPSIS DEL GÉNERO TERNSTROEMIA (TERNSTROEMIACEAE) EN BRASIL, INCLUYENDO NOVEDADES TAXONÓMICAS, NOMENCLATURALES Y COROLÓGICAS

Abstract

En este trabajo se presenta una sinopsis del género Ternstroemia Mutis ex L.f. para Brasil, incluyendo dos especies nuevas (T. atlantica J.R. Grande, sp. nov. y T. caput-medusae J.R. Grande, sp. nov.), un registro nuevo (T. laevigata Wawra), nueve sinónimos nuevos, una rehabilitación (T. borbensis Kobuski), dos diagnosis enmendadas y 14 lectotipificaciones. En total, se reconocen 22 especies, sin variedades, 12 de las cuales son endémicas. La mayor riqueza de taxones se ubica en el norte, centro-oeste y sudeste del país, en las regiones naturales de la Amazonía, Cerrado, Guayana y Mata Atlãntica e incluye una variada gama de ecosistemas. En la mayoría de los casos el estado de conservación es óptimo, pero las actividades mineras y la expansión de la frontera agrícola amenazan la supervivencia de siete especies. Se incluyen ilustraciones y mapas de distribución para taxones críticos y se propone una clave para todas las especies del país.

A synopsis of the genus Ternstroemia Mutis ex L.f. (Ternstroemiaceae) for Brazil is presented, including two new species (T. atlantica J.R. Grande, sp. nov., T. caput-medusae J.R. Grande, sp. nov.), one new record (T. laevigata Wawra), one rehabilitation (T. borbensis Kobuski), two emended diagnosis, nine new synonyms, and 14 lectotypifications. In total, 22 species are recognized with no varieties, 12 of them are endemic. The highest taxonomic richness is located in the north, central-west and southeast of the country, in the natural regions of the Amazon, Cerrado, Guayana and Mata Atlãntica, including many ecosystem types. For the most part of the species, conservation status is optimal, but mining activities and an expanding agricultural frontier could be compromising the survival of seven species. Maps and illustrations are offered for critical taxa, and a key to differentiate all the species in the country is included.
