Asistencias Tecnológicas: una dificultad semántica

Abstract

En español existen diversos términos para referirse a artefactos de apoyo para personas con discapacidades. El objetivo del presente artículo es evidenciar cómo diversas interpretaciones semánticas complejizan la comprensión, diseño, fabricación y distribución de las asistencias tecnológicas. La metodología empleada es de carácter no experimental descriptiva para identificar los obstáculos entre usuario y asistencia tecnológica efectiva. Se concluye que es necesario esclarecer la intención semántica de estos términos para informar su propósito y paliar las brechas que dificultan su obtención.

In Spanish, there are several terms to refer to assistive devices for people with disabilities. The objective of this article is to show how different semantic interpretations complicate the understanding, design, manufacture and distribution of assistive technology. The methodology employed is non-experimental and descriptive in nature to identify the barriers between user and effective assistive technology. It is concluded that it is necessary to clarify the semantic intent of these terms to inform their purpose and to alleviate the gaps that hinder their attainment.
