Ciclo económico y sector externo en el Ecuador, 2002-2017

Abstract

Se pretende determinar la influencia del sector externo (exportaciones, importaciones, precios del petróleo WTI y tipo de cambio real) sobre el comportamiento cíclico de la economía ecuatoriana, en el período 2002-2017. Para el efecto se aplica el filtro Hodrick - Prescott a la totalidad de series económicas y se identifican sus hechos estilizados en un análisis dinámico, con el fin de verificar la persistencia, volatilidad y comovimientos entre las variables. Adicionalmente, se estima la correlación entre las series estilizadas. Se concluye la presencia de un comportamiento pro-cíclico del sector externo en la economía ecuatoriana.

It is intended to determine the influence of the external sector (exports, imports, WTI oil prices and real exchange rate) on the cyclical behavior of the Ecuadorian economy, in the period 2002-2017. For this purpose, the Hodrick - Prescott filter is applied to all economic series and its stylized facts are identified in a dynamic analysis, in order to verify the persistence, volatility and co-movements between the variables. Additionally, the correlation between the stylized series is estimated. It concludes the presence of a pro-cyclical behavior of the external sector in the Ecuadorian economy.
