Principios de la democracia

Abstract

La democracia reclama el ejercicio de las virtudes personales y cívicas, como ambiente indispensable del ejercicio de la libertad en la configuración y búsqueda de los contenidos concretos del bien común. Tiene como su principal elemento constitutivo el reconocimiento de la prioridad moral sobre el poder, basado en la soberanía popular, y por tanto, del espíritu sobre la materia y la técnica; comporta el permanente esfuerzo de perfeccionar sus mecanismos, estructuras e instituciones ante los retos que el intenso y profundo proceso de cambio plantea. Comporta reconocer que el Estado es un instrumento de la sociedad civil y al mismo tiempo, su papel es de constituirse en un organismo social especializado en el bienestar público. El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo describir los Principios de la Democracia, estudia los postulados fundamentales, así como los valores que lo conforman, con el fin último de comprender los cimientos del proceso democrático.

Democracy demands the exercise of personal and civic virtues, as an indispensable environment for the exercise of freedom in the configuration and search for the concrete contents of the common good. Its main constitutive element is the recognition of moral priority over power, based on popular sovereignty, and therefore, of spirit over matter and technique; it involves the permanent effort to perfect its mechanisms, structures and institutions in the face of the challenges posed by the intense and profound process of change. It involves recognizing that the State is an instrument of civil society and at the same time, its role is to become a social body specialized in public welfare. The present work aims to describe the Principles of Democracy, studies the fundamental postulates, as well as the values that make it up, with the ultimate goal of understanding the foundations of the democratic process.
