Revisión del género Agave en Venezuela: Variación de la diversidad

Abstract

El objeto primordial del presente estudio fue elaborar un catálogo preliminar de las especies de Agave que confluyen como cultivadas y de manera natural que se registraron luego de la búsqueda en campo y revisión en el herbario. Se realizó la descripción y caracterización que muestran las similitudes y diferencias respecto a especies determinadas en otros países, con claves realizadas por el botánico Robert Wingfield (Wingf.), lo que permitió elaborar un catálogo florístico exhaustivo y representativo del género Agave, debido a que existen muchas identificaciones tentativas o genéricas en algunos pliegos de herbarios, en Venezuela. La investigación se realizó en bosques xerofíticos de Falcón. En la región semiárida están presentes algunas especies con distribución restringida para el caribe, descritas en tiempo reciente y en el pasado (novedades taxonómicas), y también se localizan algunas novedades corológicas. Las claves para diferenciar los ejemplares estudiados, fueron cotejadas con las descripciones de Wingfield (2018).

The main objective of the present study was to elaborate a preliminary catalog of the Agave species that are both cultivated and naturally occurring, which were recorded after the field search and herbarium review. The description and characterization showing the similarities and differences with respect to species determined in other countries, with keys made by the botanist Robert Wingfield (Wingf.), which allowed elaborating an exhaustive and representative floristic catalog of the genus Agave, due to the fact that there are many tentative or generic identifications in some herbarium sheets, in Venezuela. The research was carried out in xerophytic forests of Falcón. In the semi-arid region there are some species with restricted distribution for the Caribbean, described in recent times and in the past (taxonomic novelties), and some chorological novelties are also located. The keys to differentiate the specimens studied were compared with the descriptions of Wingfield (2018).
