Schopenhauer y atman. Reflexiones bioéticas en torno la eticidad de los perros y el sufrimiento animal

Abstract

Es conocida la identificación de frases de Arthur Schopenhauer en contra del maltrato animal, sobre el papel de la sociedad hacia los animales no humanos y sobre los valores, virtudes y eticidad que tienen los perros. Uno de sus perros (caniches) se llamaba “Ātmán”, noción que en sánscrito hace referencia al “alma del universo”. En este escrito se reflexionará en torno a la obra del filósofo alemán y su postura hacia los animales, así como detalles de su biografía que nos permitirán argumentar los motivos que llevan a Schopenhauer a ser un defensor de los animales y a considerar que los perros tienen un mayor grado de eticidad y valores que los mismos seres humanos.

There is known the identification of Arthur Schopenhauer´s phrases in opposition to the animal abuse, the paper of the society towards non-human animals, and the values, virtues and the ethics that have the dogs. One of his dogs (a poodle) was called “Atman”, notion that in Sanskrit refers to the “soul of the universe”. This paper will be thought about the work of the German philosopher and his position towards the animals, as well as details of his biography that will allow us to argue the motives that lead Schopenhauer to be a defender of the animals and the reasons to consider that dogs have more ethics and values than the same human beings.
