Esto por años, fue interpretado como otro martirio al Nazareno, un moribundo recibiendo el ácido “vinagre” de los soldados romanos, no obstante, a la luz de elementos históricos, pudo haber sido, por el contrario, un acto de compasión o de arrepentimiento de los custodios para con el Hijo de Dios.
