Configuración económica de la industria farmacéutica

Abstract

La presente investigación trató de precisar las variables que conforman la Industria Farmacéutica (IF), siendo que, este sector presenta características sui generis respecto a otros sectores y la escasa producción académica justifica el desarrollo de investigaciones dirigidas a distinguir esta industria y contribuir en la producción de conocimiento. Elementos como fallas de mercado, diferenciación, intervención del Estado, canal de distribución, competitividad asociada al vencimiento de las patentes, incorporación de medicamentos genéricos, y el interés por el control de la prescripción y dispensación son fundamentales en la configuración teórica de este particular sector económico. Se realizó una amplia revisión bibliográfica, y del análisis de las distintas variables estudiadas se concluye que conocer las características particulares de la IF y a los agentes que intervienen en el canal de distribución son elementos clave para la búsqueda del éxito empresarial en el sector.

This article is intended to specify the variable that compose the pharmaceutical industry. This sector presents sui generis characteristics regarding other sectors and the low academic production justify the develop of investigations directed at distinguish this industry and support the knowledge production. Elements like market failures, differentiation, state intervention, distribution channel, competitiveness associated with the patent expiration, incorporation of generic drugs and the prescription control interest and dispensing are fundamentals on the theoretical configuration of this particular economic sector. A wide-ranging bibliographic review was made , and from the analysis of the different variable studied it is concluded that knowing the particulars characteristics of the pharmaceutical industry and the agents that involved on the distribution channel are key elements to search the bussines’s area .
