Estrategias de desempeño del entorno competitivo de bróker de seguros de asistencia médica en Guayaquil

Abstract

El trabajo que se presenta aborda el comportamiento actual de las estrategias de desempeño del bróker de seguros médicos en el entorno competitivo de la ciudad de Guayaquil, Ecuador. Se ha partido de la valoración de las tendencias regulares de los cambios que, según la literatura, se han experimentado en los últimos años en este sector de seguros a nivel mundial, identificando su consistencia con lo experimentado en el contexto de esta importante ciudad. Con el objetivo de analizar cómo el entorno competitivo determina las estrategias y el desempeño de estos bróker de seguros, en el presente artículo se realiza una triangulación metodológica de los resultados a través del análisis de métodos cualitativos y cuantitativos que han posibilitado la aplicación de entrevistas a gerentes de bróker de seguros que operan en el área de la asistencia médica, así como, los análisis PESTEL y las cinco fuerzas de Porter, que permitieron identificar las principales estrategias que implementan los bróker de seguros médicos en la ciudad de Guayaquil. Las estrategias identificadas, que son además propuestas de soluciones ante los diferentes factores que inciden en el entorno de los bróker, se agruparon en tres dimensiones fundamentales; la política, la tecnológica y la económica, considerando su peso específico en el comportamiento y la importancia que tiene que los gerentes y directivos presten especial atención a las mismas, en tanto sirven como referencia para la implementación de tácticas que aseguren el crecimiento en el sector

The work presented addresses the current behavior of the performance strategies of the medical insurance broker in the competitive environment of the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador. The starting point has been an assessment of the regular trends of changes that, according to the literature, have been experienced in recent years in this insurance sector worldwide, identifying their consistency with what has been experienced in the context of this important city. With the objective of analyzing how thecompetitive environment determines the strategies and performance of these insurance brokers, in this article a methodological triangulation of the results is carried out through the analysis of qualitative and quantitative methods that have made possiblethe application of interviews to insurance broker managers who operate in the area of medical care, as well as PESTEL analysis and Porter's Five Forces, which allowed us to identify the main strategies implemented by medical insurance brokers in the city of Guayaquil. The identified strategies, which are also proposed solutions to the different factors that affect the broker environment, were grouped into three fundamental dimensions; political, technological and economic, considering their specific weightin behavior and the importance of managers and directors paying special attention to them, as they serve as a reference for the implementation of tactics that ensure growth in the sector
