Experiencias del mundo social en la configuración de vocaciones científicas de mujeres estudiantes de preparatoria

Abstract

En el presente artículo se analiza cómo se configuran las representaciones de las vocaciones científicas en mujeres estudiantes de preparatoria. Según Pierre Bourdieu (1990, 2007), las representaciones son parte de un proceso de construcción social que deviene en formas de pensamiento y de acción, correspondientes a contextos sociales específicos. Desde esta perspectiva, se analiza cómo la participación de estudiantes mujeres que, por diversas razones, contextos y estructuras, ha sido asimétrica en relación con su contraparte de género; el interés es indagar la configuración de las vocaciones científicas y sus repercusiones en esta asimétrica realidad. Para ello, se realizaron grupos de discusión con alumnas de preparatoria de la Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México. Los resultados permiten identificar situaciones y condiciones socio históricas de nuestras informantes en las que se pueden configurar vocaciones para que exista la participación de las mujeres en la ciencia. En este contexto, es posible distinguir diferentes discursos que se entrelazan entre ser mujer y ser científica, así como la importancia que tiene el entorno escolar y familiar en la configuración de significados para la vocación científica de las mujeres participantes en los grupos de discusión mencionado.

This paper analyzes how representations of scientific vocations are configured in female high school students. According to Pierre Bourdieu (1990, 2007), representations are part of a social construction process that results in forms of thought and action, corresponding to specific social contexts. From this perspective, we analyze how the participation of female students who, for various reasons, contexts and structures, has been asymmetrical in relation to their gender counterpart; the interest is to investigate the configuration of scientific vocations and its repercussions in this asymmetrical reality. For this purpose, discussion groups were held with high school students of the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México. The results allow us to identify situations and socio-historical conditions of our informants in which vocations can be configured for the participation of women in science. In this context, it is possible to distinguish different discourses that intertwine between being a woman and being a scientist, as well as the importance of the school and family environment in the configuration of meanings for the scientific vocation of the women participating in the aforementioned discussion groups.
