Vacunas, inmunización, y derechos humanos en Venezuela

Abstract

El propósito de este trabajo es revisar la situación de las vacunas en Venezuela, teniendo como marco conceptual los derechos humanos. Para cumplir con este objetivo, se realizó una exhaustiva revisión documental, que abarcó investigaciones de especialistas, informes y reportes de organismos nacionales e internacionales, sobre las vacunas en el mundo, la región y, muy particularmente, en el país. Los resultados evidencian una disminución de la inmunización contra las enfermedades prevenibles con vacunas, con la subsecuente reemergencia de enfermedades erradicadas. Esto tiene un impacto negativo en las oportunidades de la población venezolana para mejorar sus condiciones de vida y constituye, en los hechos, una regresión de los derechos a la salud y a la no-discriminación

The purpose of this article is to is to review the situation of vaccines in Venezuela, using the Human Rights as a conceptual framework. In order to achieve this objective, documents emanating from the national Government, multilateral agencies, non-governmental organizations, national and international organizations and experts on the subject were examined. The results show that there is a decrease in immuniza-tion against vaccine-preventable diseases in the country, with the sub-sequent reemergence of eradicated diseases. This has a negative impact on the Venezuelan population’s opportunities to improve their living conditions and constitutes, in fact, a regression of the rights to the heal-th and non-discrimination
