Rafael Villavicencio y la Cátedra de Historia Universal (Con motivo delcentenario de la muerte de Rafael Villavicencio)

Abstract

Debido a que el día 28 de agosto de 2020, se cumplen cien años de la muerte de Rafael Villavicencio, es necesario destacar la importante labor que realizó este intelectual venezolano en diferentes áreas del saber: medicina, educación, periodismo, y desde altos cargos públicos. Es reconocido académicamente, por ser uno de los principales impulsadores y difusores de las ideas de la corriente filosófica positivista en el país, desde diferentes espacios, pero principalmente desde la cátedra de Historia Universal que dirigió en la Universidad Central de Venezuela desde 1866. Son de destacar, los valiosos cambios a que conllevó este emergente paradigma en las diferentes ramas del saber, y en la progresiva transformación ontológica para el momento

Considering that on August 28, 2020, a hundred years have passed since Rafael Villavicencio ́s death, it is necessary to highlight theimportant work done by this Venezuelan intellectual man, in different areas of knowledge, such as medicine, education, journalism,and from the high public office. He is recognized academically, for being one of the main promoters and diffusers of the ideas of thepositivist philosophical current in the country. From different spaces, but mainly from the professorship of the Universal History,he directed at the Central University of Venezuela since 1866. It is noteworthy, the valuable changes that this emerging paradigmentailed in the different branches of knowledge, and in the progressive ontological transformation for that moment.
