Da “sociedade em equilíbrio” à “sociedade mundial”: o percurso da teoria dos sistemas sociais no último século

Abstract

Neste artigo, procuramos revisar o percurso percorrido pela teoria dos sistemas sociais ao longo do último século. Mais precisamente, nosso objetivo é demonstrar alguns avanços que ocorreram em uma das vertentes do pensamento sistêmico (isto é, aquela que se ocupa em explicar e descrever os sistemas da sociedade a partir de suas funções) desde o lançamento do Trattato di Sociologia Generale, publicado por Vilfredo Pareto em 1916. Além de Pareto, a análise desse percurso histórico perpassa também a obra de Talcott Parsons e de Niklas Luhmann, até os trabalhos recentes de Stephan Fuchs, Rudolf Stichweh e Marcelo Arnold, demonstrando que a teoria dos sistemas sociais passou por grandes avanços teóricos e epistemológicos, consolidandose como uma das principais correntes de pensamento da teoria sociológica.

In this article, we seek to revise the path taken by the theory of social systems over a century. More precisely, the objective is to demonstrate some advances that have occurred in one of the currents of systemic thinking (that is, one that focuses on explaining and describing the systems of society from its functions) since the launch of the Trattato di Sociologia Generale, published by Vilfredo Pareto in 1916. In addition to Pareto, the analysis of this historical path also runs through the work of Talcott Parsons and Niklas Luhmann, until the recent works of Stephan Fuchs, Rudolf Stichweh and Marcelo Arnold, demonstrating that the theory of social systems has under-gone major theoretical and epistemological advances, consolidating itself as one of the main currents of thought in sociological theory.
