Tecnologías de la información y la comunicación en los escenarios social y educativo: posibilidades y riesgos

Abstract

El mundo ha cambiado drásticamente y las formas de comunicación también se han modificado. Cualquier recurso que se pueda incorporar para que el ser humano alcance la interacción con su medio debe permitirle, no solo la expresión del pensamiento convertido en lenguaje, sino la posibilidad de informarse, formarse y avanzar. En este ensayo académico, construido desde un enfoque documental, crítico y reflexivo, se presenta un análisis acerca de las Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación (Tic’s) y su relación con la vida social y la educación. Por consiguiente, se tratan las posibilidades y riesgos que se derivan de su empleo, advirtiendo en cada caso, el riesgo de fijar posiciones radicales irreconciliables. El texto se organiza en dos sub-apartados, el primero se remite a algunos autores que manifiestan una actitud judicativa y exponen el problema de la manipulación y masificación de recursos electrónicos con fines comerciales, ideológicos y políticos. El segundo apartado describe las posibilidades del influjo tecnológico en el contexto educativo actual. De forma sustancial, se vinculan también las competencias en lectura y escritura que se requieren para no quedar desasistidos ante las TIC’s y la sobrecarga de datos e información que Éstas ofrecen. Al representar a las “nuevas” tecnologías como un hacha, siguiendo la metáfora de Burke y Ornstein (2001), se concluye que quien determina la funcionalidad de la herramienta es el ser humano. Su formación educativa y sus capacidades cognitivas, lingüísticas y procedurales habrán de conducirlo para hacer un uso sensato y constructivo de estos recursos.

The world has changed drastically and the forms of communication have also changed. Any resource that can be incorporated so that the human being achieves interaction with his environment must allow him, not only the expression of thought converted into language, but also the possibility of obtaining information, training and advancing. In this academic essay, built from a documentary, critical and reflective approach, an analysis of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and their relationship with social life and education is presented. Therefore, the possibilities and risks that derive from its use are discussed, warning in each case, the risk of establishing irreconcilable radical positions. The text is organized in two sub-sections, the first refers to some authors who show a judgmental attitude and expose the problem of the manipulation and overcrowding of electronic resources for commercial, ideological and political purposes. The second section describes the possibilities of technological influence in the current educational context. In a substantial way, the skills in reading and writing that are required so as not to be left unattended by ICTs and the overload of data and information that they offer are also linked. By representing the “new” technologies as an axe, following the metaphor of Burke and Ornstein (2001), it is concluded that the one who determines the functionality of the tool is the human being. His educational training and his cognitive, linguistic and procedural abilities will guide him to make sensible and constructive use of these resources.
