Caracterización biométrica de frutos y semillas de Leucaena en germoplasma de la Universidad de Oriente, Maturín, Venezuela

Abstract

En virtud de la adecuada adaptación de Leucaena a la zona agroecológica en el municipio Maturín y potencialidad de uso forrajero de la especie, la presente investigación tiene por objetivo realizar la descripción organométrica de sus frutos y semillas. El ensayo se condujo en el Campus “Los Guaritos” de la Universidad de Oriente, ubicado en Maturín, en lotes de la especie formados por dispersión natural. De los árboles existentes en etapa de fructificación, se seleccio-naron aleatoriamente 18 plantas, se determinó la altura del árbol y el diámetro del tallo, paralelamente, se tomaron al azar 20 frutos maduros por árbol, cuantificando la longitud total y ancho central y de su interior se determinó el número de semillas por fruto y, la masa en gramos de 100 semillas. Los valores de las variables cuantificadas fueron analizados por estadística descriptiva y análisis de correlación de Pearson a 5 % de probabilidad. En promedio, la altura de los árboles fue de 12,14 m y el diámetro del tallo aproximadamente 8,95 cm. Se constató que los frutos L. leucocephala var. Cunninghan presentan valores de longitud y ancho comprendidos entre los rangos señalados para la especie; mientras que, el intervalo de confianza de semillas por fruto es alto y la masa en g.100-1 semillas es baja cuando comparada con los rangos de referencia de la especie. Se detectó correlación positiva y significativa entre la longitud y ancho del fruto con el contenido de semillas por fruto.

By virtue of the adequate adaptation of Leucaena to the agroecological zone in the Maturín municipality and the potential for forage use of the species, the present investigation aims to carry out the organometric description of its fruits and seeds. The trial was conducted at the “Los Guaritos” Campus of the Universidad de Oriente, located in Maturín, in batches of the species formed by natural dispersal. Of the existing trees in the fruiting stage, 18 plants were randomly selected, the height of the tree and the diameter of the stem were determined, in parallel, 20 mature fruits were randomly taken per tree, quantifying the total length and central width and its interior the number of seeds per fruit and the mass in grams of 100 seeds were determined. The values of the quantified variables were analyzed by descriptive statistics and Pearson’s correlation analysis at 5 % probability. On average, the height of the trees was 12.14 m and the diameter of the stem was approximately 8.95 cm. It was found that the fruits Leucaena leucocephala var. Cunninghan present values of length and width comprised between the ranges indicated for the species; while, the confidence interval of seeds per fruit is high and the mass in g.100-1 seeds is low when compared with the reference ranges of the species. A positive and significant correlation was detected between the length and width of the fruit with the content of seeds per fruit.
