Rendimiento estudiantil en introducción a la matemática

Abstract

Esta investigación tiene como objetivo analizar el rendimiento estudiantil en Introducción a la Matemática, comparando los resultados de los alumnos inscritos, con quienes cursan y finalizan la asignatura, para identificar las causas del alto índice de reprobados. Se trata de estudio descriptivo que examina estadísticamente las calificaciones desde el inicio hasta el cierre del semestre, mediante una estrategia metodológica de campo. La confiabilidad de los datos fue verificada y la prueba de hipótesis indicó que existe diferencia significativa entre grupos. La conclusión establece que el rendimiento real no debe calcularse sobre el total de inscritos, sino considerando únicamente a quienes completan el curso. Se recomienda utilizar la media aritmética para comparar el inicio y el final del semestre, además de analizar la variación, el intervalo de confianza, la curtosis y la asimetría de los datos.

This research aims to analyze student performance in Introduction to Mathematics by comparing the results of enrolled students with those who complete the course, in order to identify the causes of the high failure rate. This descriptive study statistically examines grades from the beginning to the end of the semester using a field research methodology. Data reliability was verified, and hypothesis testing indicated a significant difference between groups. The conclusion is that actual performance should not be calculated based on the total number of enrolled students, but rather considering only those who complete the course. It is recommended to use the arithmetic mean to compare the beginning and end of the semester, in addition to analyzing the variance, confidence interval, kurtosis, and skewness of the data.
