El observatorio para la violencia ginecobstétrica en Venezuela: un horizonte de desafíos

Abstract

La pandemia por COVID-19 evidenció el desgaste preexistente del sistema de salud venezolano, disminuyó las opciones de atención en salud materna y recrudeció la violencia ginecobstétrica. También incrementó los casos de muerte materna y perinatal, una regresión de los indicadores de salud. Por ello, analizamos la situación de la atención ginecobstétrica durante la gestación, parto y puerperio en el sistema de salud venezolano en la Gran Caracas. Fue una investigación epistemológicamente situada desde la perspectiva feminista cuyo método hermenéutico hizo un abordaje descriptivointerpretativo con procedimientos cuantitativos y cualitativos. Los hallazgos muestran cómo intervenciones médicas y trato recibido evidencian irrespetos a los derechos sexuales y reproductivos a la vez que la ineficacia e inexistencia de políticas públicas que garanticen la salud.

The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the pre-existing wear and tear of the Venezuelan health system, decreased maternal health care options, and increased gynecobstetric violence. It also increased cases of maternal and perinatal death, a regression of health indicators. For this reason, we analyze the situation of gynecobstetric care during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period in the Venezuelan health system in Greater Caracas. It was an epistemologically situated investigation from a feminist perspective whose hermeneutic method took a descriptive-interpretive approach with quantitative and qualitative procedures. The findings show how medical interventions and treatment received show disrespect for sexual and reproductive rights as well as the ineffectiveness and nonexistence of public policies that guarantee health.
