dc.descriptionEl trastorno del espectro autista (TEA) supone un enigma. Actualmente, en Venezuela existe gran variedad de investigaciones referentes al tema, cuya principal fuente de impulso ha sido la investigación universitaria. Estos estudios han surgido sin un hilo conductor que les proporcione continuidady sistematización, por lo que parece imperante la necesidad de realizar un estudio que ayude a encauzar la investigación sobre los TEA en las universidades del área metropolitana de Caracas. Se planteó un proyecto documental de alcance exploratorio-descriptivo, en el que se realizó una recopilación del trabajo investigativo universitario en el área, desde sus inicios hasta la actualidad, evaluando aspectos teóricos y metodológicos. Todo ello siguiendo las etapas correspondientes a un análisis cienciométrico y utilizando métodos de análisis cualitativo y cuantitativo. Adicionalmente, se examinó la correspondencia entre lo que es investigado con aquello necesitado por la comunidad. Se concluyó proporcionando recomendacionesque orientaran futuros estudios científicos acordes con las necesidades de la población y el estado de desarrollo presente en la investigación. Autism spectrum disorder: Scientific productivity, analysis and university research tendencies within the Caracas metropolitan areaAbstractAutism spectrum disorder currently represents an enigma. In Venezuela, exists a variety of investigations regarding the topic, with the main promoter being university research. These studies have emerged without a proper continuity and systematization, reason why it seems proper to conduct a study that helps to channel this investigations in the universities located within theCaracas’ metropolitan area. A documentary exploratory-descriptive project was undertaken, in which a collection from its beginnings to the present of university research in the area was carried out, including an evaluation of theoretical and methodological aspects, following the corresponding stepsto a scientometric analysis, and implementing qualitative and quantitative methods of analysis. Additionally, the correspondence between “what is investigated” and “what is needed” by the community was examined; due recommendations were provided, in order to guide future scientific studies according to the population needs and the current state of development of the general research exercise.es-ES
