dc.descriptionEn la corporalidad se expresan metáforas entramadas con el lenguaje, los ideales de belleza física, las subjetividades de los otros, de sí mismo y de la percepción de bienestar. Dichas metáforas sirven de punto de partida para explorar la relación entre las conductas alimentarias y la satisfacción con la imagen corporal. La muestra intencional estuvo compuesta por 183 estudiantes universitarios/as y fue estratificada según variables de género, edad, estado civil y facultad. Se utilizó un diseño no experimental, exploratorio, de grupos independientes. La investigación fue aprobada por el Comité Institucional de Ética de la Universidad de Puerto Rico. Se administró el cuestionario Eating Attitude Test-26 (EAT-26=con un alpha de .86), el Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ) y test de Siluetas, ambos con alpha de .96. El 13% de la muestra reportó insatisfacción con su imagen corporal; 7% presentó indicadores de trastorno de conducta alimentaria; 14% experimentó experiencias de atracones de comidas y 21% utilizó laxantes para reducir su peso. El 2% reportó síntomas depresivos e ideaciones suicidas. BODY METAPHORS IN YOUNG PUERTO RICANSAbstractThe concept of corporality incorporates the expression of metaphors that are intermeshed with language, the ideals of physical beauty, the subjectivity of self and the others, and the perception of wellbeing. Such metaphors give support to explore the relationships between eating behaviors and the satisfaction level towards body image. The intentional sample was made upof 183 university students and classified according to gender, age, marital status, and department (faculty). A non-experimental, exploratory design involving independent groups, was conducted. The research was approved by the Institutional Ethics Committee of the University of Puerto Rico.The Eating Attitude Test-26 (EAT-26) was administered, and an Alpha of .86 was reported; the Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ) and the Silhouette Test based on the Contour Drawing Rating Scale were also used, both with an alpha of .96. 13% of the sample reported dissatisfaction with their body image; 7% reported indicators of eating behavior disorders; 14% havehad gorging experiences, and 21% had used laxatives to lose weight. 2% presented symptoms of depression and suicidal ideation.es-ES
