dc.descriptionResumen:Mucho debe el poblamiento y evangelización de la Venezuela Profunda, suerte de territorios interiores extensos, no explorados a las Misiones Institucionales que llegaron a partir de la segunda mitad del Siglo XVII.En esta ocasión sólo nos detendremos en los esfuerzos de los jesuitas en los territorios del Casanare, Meta y Orinoco. La labor geográfica y cartográfica realizada en el Orinoco por Matías de Tapia, Juan Capuel, José Gumilla, Bernardo Rotella, Manuel Román, Agustín de Vega y Felipe Salvador Gilij, para sólo mencionar los más destacados, dio a conocer por vez primera la provincia de Guayana desde un punto de vista científico.En las líneas siguientes ofrecemos una visión del aporte de la Compañía de Jesús a las ideas gográficas de Venezuela, particularmente de la Orinoquia. Lo haremos a través de la obra de los PP. José Gumilla, Manuel Román, Bernardo Rotella y Felipe Salvador Gilij. La geografía y uno de los  mejores auxiliares de esta ciencia, la cartografía, irán de la mano.Palabras claves: Misiones Institucionales, Jesuitas, Cartografía, Guayana, Orinoquia, Caño Casiquiare.The Jesuit contribution to geographical ideas of Venezuela.Abstract:Much must be populated and evangelization of the deep Venezuela, sort of Interior Territories not explored, extensive institutional missions that came from the second half of the 17TH century.  On this occasion we will only stop at the efforts of the Jesuits in the territories of the Casanare, Meta and Orinoco. The geographic and cartographic work in the Orinoco by Tapia Matías, Juan Capuel, José Gumilla, Bernardo Rotella, Manuel Román, Agustín de Vega y Felipe Salvador Gilij, to mention only the most prominent, unveiled for the first time the province of Guyana from a scientific point of view.  In the following lines we offer insight into the contribution of the society of Jesus to gograficas of Venezuela, particularly of the Orinoco ideas. We will do this through the work of the PP. José Gumilla, Manuel Román, Bernardo Rotella and Felipe Salvador Gilij.
