dc.descriptionResumen:El propósito principal de este trabajo, es examinar el imaginario del jesuita en la Mérida colonial y  republicana, presente en sus esfuerzos educativos y religiosos en el entorno urbano, basado en el trabajo de su hacienda. Es por ello que nuestro objetivo es estudiar y dar un sentido tanto a los testimonios tangibles e intangibles; un marco de las diversas representaciones simbólicas y referencias ignacianas que han acumulado a través de una serie de instituciones y bajo diferentes contextos sociales, en forma de sus actuaciones en la vida cotidiana de Mérida durante esas épocas, que representa una imagen de su existencia social y cultural.Palabras clave: Mérida, jesuitas, imaginario colonial, educación, sociedad, cultura.Abstract:The main purpose of this paper is to examine the Jesuit imaginary in the Hispanic and Republican Mérida, present in its educational and religious endeavors in the urban environment, based on their hacienda’s work. That is why our aim is to study and give a sense both to the tangible and intangible testimonies; a framework of the various symbolic representations and Ignatian references that have been built up through a number of institutions and under different social settings, shaped their performances in Merida’s everyday life during those times , depicting an image of their social and cultural existence.Keywords: Mérida, Jesuits, colonial imagination, education, society and culture.es-ES
