dc.descriptionResumen:En abril de 1983 el Consejo Universitario de la Universidad Católica Andrés Bello aprobó el Programa de Doctorado en Historia. Sus objetivos fueron: 1.- La formación de docentes e investigadores altamente capacitados en el campo de la Historia. 2.- Producir nuevos conocimientos en el área. 3.- Conformar equipos multidisciplinarios para la elaboración de proyectos de investigación en el área de las humanidades.Para lograrlo se decidió aprovechar la experiencia exitosa previa de las dos Maestrías en Historia existentes: Historia de Venezuela e Historia de las Américas. Y en grado especial la adscripción de los mencionados postgrados al Instituto de Investigaciones Históricas.Este artículo ofrece la experiencia de los primeros 24 años del Doctorado en Historia, programa de postgrado acreditado y consolidado, reconocido a nivel nacional e internacional, a través  de su dinámica, profesores, egresados, Tesis doctorales; y su  contribución al desarrollo nacional.Palabras claves: Postgrado, Doctorado, Historia, Universidad Católica Andrés Bello, Instituto de Investigaciones Históricas, investigación.Abstract:In April 1983 the University Council of the Catholic University Andres Bello passed the PhD program in history. Its objectives were: 1. the training of teachers and researchers, highly qualified in the field of history. 2 produce new knowledge in the area. 3 form multidisciplinary teams in the development of research projects in the area of the humanities. To achieve this, it was decided to take the previous successful experience of the two existing masters in history: history of Venezuela and history of the Americas. And special grade the assignment of the above postgraduate courses at the Institute of historical research.This article provides the experience of the first 24 years of the doctorate in history, graduate program accredited and consolidated, recognized at national and international level, through its dynamic, professors, graduates, doctoral theses; and its contribution to national development.Key words: Postgraduate, PhD, history, Andrés Bello Catholic University, Institute of historical research, research.es-ES
