dc.descriptionResumen: La sociedad de la provincia de Caracas tuvo como eje económico fundamental el cacao. Pese a su carácter dinamizador e influencia decisiva en el desarrollo de la sociedad y economía colonial, son pocos los estudios sobre su impacto en el poblamiento, la producción, el comercio y la riqueza generada en esa “sociedad y geografía del cacao”. El artículo ofrece el aporte historiográfico venezolano, las tendencias temáticas a nivel hispanoamericano, así como un balance de las fuentes primarias existentes.Palabras clave: Provincia de Caracas Siglo XVIII, Sociedad del cacao, balance historiográfico y de fuentes.Abstract: Cacao was the primary economic support of society in the Province of Caracas. In spite of its dynamic character and its decisive influence in the development of colonial society and economics, there are few studies about its impact in populating the zone, nor in the production, commerce and opulence generated by that “society and geography of cacao”. This article offers a historiographical Venezuelan contribution to thematic tendencies in Hispanic American studies, and also an assessment of existing primary sources.Keywords: 18th century Caracas Providence, cacao society, historiographical contribution, assessment of primary sources. es-ES
