dc.descriptionResumen:Este artículo analiza la situación de los llamados “Servidores de la Patria” o héroes de la independencia de Venezuela durante el período de 1830-1840. El estudio aborda el tema de las pensiones y el montepío militar que recibieron aquellos oficiales o soldados que lucharon por la causa republicana, así como la ayuda o beneficios que se les brindó a las viudas y huérfanos de aquellos que combatieron durante o después del proceso emancipador y murieron a consecuencia de heridas graves y/o enfermedades. Ambos beneficios (pensiones y montepío militar) se convertirían en un recurso político de “Seguridad Social” creado por la elite gobernante para lograr el control y la sumisión de los cuerpos militares a la autoridad civil.Palabras clave: Venezuela Siglo XIX, Historia militar, pensiones, montepío militar.Abstract:This article analyzes de situation of those called “Servants of the Fatherland”, the heroes of the independence of Venezuela who lived on during the period 1830-1840. The study examines the theme of pensions and military assistance funds which were received by officers and soldiers who had fought for the Republican cause, and also the help or benefits offered to the widows and orphans of those who fought during or after the emancipation process and died due to wounds or disease. The study focuses on the idea that these benefits (the pensions and the assistance funds) in time became the basis of “social security”, a political benefit created for the control and submission of the military corps and the civil authorities.Keywords: 19th century Venezuela, military history, pensions, widows and orphans funds. es-ES
