dc.descriptionResumen:A lo largo de la Guerra de Independencia, algunos sacerdotes sirvieron de Capellanes militares… Entre ellos, sobresale el Pbro. Pedro Antonio Torres, quien acompañó al Libertador Simón Bolívar en la campaña del Perú, como Capellán del Libertador y Vicario General del Ejército Libertador. Como tal, se halló en la Batalla de Junín… Como Vicario General del Ejército Libertador se halló también ―junto al Gral. Antonio José de Sucre― en la Batalla de Ayacucho, en la cual quedó herido. Concluida la Guerra de Independencia, acompañó a Bolívar en su viaje al Alto Perú… Después de desempeñarse como Gobernador Eclesiástico del Cuzco, se trasladó a Guayaquil y Quito... En el año 1829, el Libertador lo propuso al Consejo de Estado de la República de Colombia para Obispo de Panamá; postulación, a la cual el Consejo de Estado no dio le curso por ser el Pbro. Dr. Torres hijo ilegítimo. Después de la muerte de Bolívar, fue electo Obispo de Cartagena de Indias y posteriormente de Popayán… En ambas sedes episcopales, se destacó por su empeño en la organización de los Seminarios.Palabras clave: Pedro Antonio Torres, Simón Bolívar, Antonio José de Sucre, Capellán militar, Guerra de Independencia, Batalla de Junín, Batalla de Ayacucho, Papa Gregorio XVI, Papa Pío IX.Abstract:Throughout the War of Independence, some priests served as military chaplains…. Among them, stands out Father Pedro Antonio Torres who accompanied the Liberator Simón Bolívar in the campaign of Peru, as Chaplain of the Liberator and Vicar General of the Liberating Army. As such, he found himself in the battle of Junin...Alongside Gral. Antonio José de Sucre he also found himself as Vicar General of the Liberator, in the battle of Ayacucho, in which he got wounded. After the war, he joined Bolívar in his trip to the Alto Peru... After serving as ecclesiastical Governor of Cuzco, moved between Guayaquil and Quito... In 1829, the Liberator recommended him to the Council of State of the Republic of Colombia for the position of Bishop of Panama; application, to which the Council of State dismissed given that Father Dr. Torres was an illegitimate son. After the death of Bolívar, he was elected Bishop of Cartagena de Indias and subsequently of Popayán...
