dc.descriptionAbstract In the history of the political press within "Great Colombia" (1821-1830), El Argos Republicano de Cumaná has the merit of having been the first newspaper published in eastern Venezuelan lands. The notes and articles written, received and reproduced by its editor, Manuel José Rivas, and the printer Hadlock Dart, represent an exceptional source for learning about the political situation in the province of Cumaná and the Department of Orinoco in 1825, a crucial year because, among other events, the first general elections for the Executive and Legislative Powers of the new republic would be held. In this work, both the form and the content of said newspaper are analyzed, taking into account the political and intellectual contexts that prevailed at the time of its circulation. dc.descriptionResumen En la historia de la prensa política dentro de la “Gran Colombia” (1821-1830), El Argos Republicano de Cumaná posee el mérito de haber sido el primer periódico publicado en tierras orientales venezolanas. Las notas y artículos redactados, recibidos y reproducidos por su editor, Manuel José Rivas, y el impresor Hadlock Dart, representan una fuente excepcional para conocer la situación política de la provincia de Cumaná y el Departamento del Orinoco en 1825, un año crucial porque, entre otros acontecimientos, se efectuarían las primeras elecciones generales para los Poderes Ejecutivo y Legislativo de la nueva república. En este trabajo se analizan tanto la forma como el contenido de dicho periódico, teniendo en consideración los contextos político e intelectual que predominaban al momento de su circulación.
