dc.descriptionA lo largo de este trabajo se intenta describir la realidad que impresionaría a Alexander Von Humboldt al llegar al Nuevo Continente, el 16 de Julio de 1799. Indiscutiblemente, no fue sólo la naturaleza del territorio venezolano lo que sorprendió su observación. Desde luego, tampoco fue el carácter particularmente perverso de la forma de administrar el gobierno por parte del poder español puesto que ya se había paseado ante formas de gobiernosimilares. Su inquietud por dichos problemas, supo compensarla con su comprensión del mundo natural físico que lo rodeó. Su vigor, pero además su sensibilidad, fueron ciertamente las fuerzas que fomentaron su voluntad y prudencia para evitar caer ante las suspicaces miradas de quienes, política y militarmente dominaban y limitaban las posibilidades de emancipación que se arraigaba en la población. Humboldt, preveía la proximidad de la independenciaen América lo cual, indiscutiblemente, fue tomado como referencia ante losencarecidos procesos de lucha. Igualmente, sintió preocupación por la fragilidad de la geografía física así como también por las angustias que padecían los habitantes de América.es-ES
dc.descriptionWe attempt to describe the reality that would have impressed Alexander Von Humboldt upon arriving to the New Continent on 16th July, 1799. Undoubtedly it was not merely the natural beauty of the Venezuelan territory that surprised him, nor was it the perverse Spanish administration, since he had seen similar governments before. His concern for such matters was compensated by his understanding of the natural physical world that surrounded him. His vigor and sensitivity were the forces that strengthened his will and prudence, forces that helped him avoid the suspicious gazes of those who held military and politicalpower and who restricted the possibilities of emancipation that were rooted in the population. Humboldt foresaw the proximity of American independence, which served as a point of reference for the coming struggles. He was as much concerned about the fragile physical geography as the distress that the inhabitants of America suffered.en-US
