The purpose of this paper was to determine the competitive transition of the Zulian metalworking sector promoted by a business model based on social media called Social Business. For this research, we applied a descriptive-correlational methodology. The results showed that 13.64% of the companies affiliated with the Zulia State Chamber of Industry have a Web 2.0 corporate presence. A techno-social lag was observed due to: obsolete management patterns; technological confusions, extemporaneous and misguided decisions; and the slowdown in business performance. The calculated Pearson coefficient was 0.2644. Therefore, to experience improvements in performance and socio-digital productivity, a business must: overcome reluctance and generational resistance; and accept the alterations in the dynamics of the structure and industrial operation. Thus, the competitiveness of the sector will depend on its commitment using Social Business in an efficient way.en-US
