| dc.description | Gingival recession (GR) is a clinical condition characterized by apical migration of the gingival margin. Their incidence varies from 8% in children to 100% after age 50. The literature reports few studies on the prevalence of GR in Venezuela highlighting a gap in the state of Mérida. Objective: To evaluate the prevalence of GR in patients treated in the Periodontics clinic of the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Los Andes (FOULA). Methodology: Descriptive observational research of cross-sectional, quantitative approach. We evaluated 1620 patients who attended the FOULA Periodontics clinic in a 9-year period (2009 - 2018). The data collected were reflected in the instrument designed for this purpose, and later the analysis of secondary data was applied through frequency statistical tables. Results: GR prevalence of 74.9% was observed in the group between 21 and 30 years (33.22%) in the female gender (56.2%), with type I predominance according to Miller (81.9%); traumatic factors represented the most prevalent etiology (53.3%). Conclusions: High prevalence of GR in women aged between 21 and 30 years was determined in patients treated at the FOULA Periodontics clinic during the period 2009 - 2018. | en-US |
