Recibido: 29/03/2020 Aceptado: 30/05/2020es-ES
Introduction: Dental crowding is one of the most frequent manifestations of malocclusion in dental consultation; this multifactorial condition includes the presence of the third molars. Considering those factors and the constant search for the unification of criteria for stablishing treatments, the next study was conducted to determine which is the information managed by general dentists about the dental crowding and its possible relationship with the third molars. Methodology: A study to 50 dentists was made between June and August of 2019 using a self-administered mixed questionnaire through the Google Forms®, platform, it was composed by twelve questions, those questions were about the causes of dental crowding and its relationship with third molars. The data was corroborated in tables and graphs of frequency using the statistical package IBM “SSPS statistics” version 19.0. Results: Of those surveyed dentists, 54% indicated that there is no relationship between dental crowding and the presence of third molars because these dental pieces do not influence the disposition of the other teeth in the jaws; while 44% of them responded affirmatively to such relationship. Conclusions: The biggest part of general dentists surveyed, consider that there is not a direct relation between the dental crowding and the third molars. Nevertheless, they agree that third molars could be a cofactor in cooperation with others, that causes dental crowding.en-US
