| dc.description | Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis (RAS) belongs to the group of chronic inflammatory ulcerative diseases of the oral mucosa. It affects 20% of the world's population and is characterized by the appearance of one or more painful ulcers with a variable healing time depending on their clinical manifestation. Its uncertain etiology makes its therapeutic management complex and non-specific, using the application of topical and systemic treatments to mitigate symptoms. In the need to identify an effective topical therapy for the treatment of RAS, a systematic review of the literature published up to 2022 in the search engines Pubmed/Medline and Cochrane Central. Of 454 articles found, after eliminating duplicates and being submitted to evaluation according to inclusion and exclusion criteria, 65 articles were selected. After conducting a thorough and selective reading of the 65 mentioned above, 14 were included in the systematic review to determine which of the topical treatments studied in randomized clinical trials are found to be the most effective in reducing pain, disappearing pain and healing lesions in the absence of adverse effects, being 0.1% acetonide triamcinolone, turmeric and honey the most effective treatments to achieve healing of lesions; and the use of low-power laser and honey the best options for pain reduction, all in the absence of adverse effects | en-US |
