Etnografía del jazz como fenómeno de influencia en la ciudad de Mérida
Resumen
El jazz es un fenómeno de alcance mundial que ha impactado distintas sociedades y distintas culturas en mayor o menor medida. La ciudad de Mérida, Venezuela hacia finales de los años setenta y comienzo de los ochenta vio la influencia de este género musical. El origen de bandas musicales con sonoridades dentro del jazz y el rock influenciaría en el desarrollo profesional de los músicos de esta ciudad, motivando a muchos de estos músicos a buscar conocimiento y oportunidades sobre el jazz en la ciudad de Caracas y fuera del país. Casi cuatro décadas posteriores se institucionalizan los estudios de jazz en la Universidad de Los Andes, sin embargo, no hay registro histórico del impacto social y cultural del jazz en esta ciudad. Lo que se propone a través de este texto es una base de investigación musicológica que dé cuenta del proceso histórico del jazz en la ciudad, en su gente y en sus instituciones. Jazz is a worldwide phenomenon that has impacted different societies and cultures to a greater or lesser extent. The city of Mérida, Venezuela towards the end of the seventies and beginning of the eighties saw the influence of this musical genre. The origin of bands with sonorities within jazz and rock would influence the professional development of the musicians of this city, motivating many of these musicians to seek knowledge and opportunities about jazz in the city of Caracas and outside the country. Almost four decades later jazz studies were institutionalized at the University of Los Andes, however, there is no historical record of the social and cultural impact of jazz in this city. What is proposed through this text is a musicological research base that accounts for the historical process of jazz in the city, its people and its institutions.
