El Caribe como destino. Aproximación a Michaelle Ascencio

Abstract

Se presenta una semblanza de Michaelle Ascencio, antropóloga y escritora venezolana formada en la Universidad Central de Venezuela, el Instituto Caro y Cuervo de Colombia, la Universidad de Estado de Haití y la Escuela de Altos Estudios en ciencias sociales de París. El artículo destaca la importante y original contribución que representan sus investigaciones en la comprensión de la sociocultura y religiosidad del Caribe, particularmente la de Haití, país donde nació, y la de Venezuela, donde vivió desde la infancia. Así mismo se reseñan sus obras de ficción y de crítica literaria.

A portrait of Michaelle Ascencio, Venezuelan anthropologist and writer trained at the Central University of Venezuela, the Caro y Cuervo Institute of Colombia, the State University of Haiti and the School of Higher Studies in social sciences of Paris. The article highlights the important and original contribution of his research in understanding the socio-culture and religiosity of the Caribbean, particularly that of Haiti, where he was born, and that of Venezuela, where he lived since childhood. His works of fiction and literary criticism are also reviewed.
