Percepción sobre el uso de ortodoncia correctiva en jóvenes desertores del tratamiento en Mérida, Venezuela

Abstract

Introducción: Durante los últimos años el abandono del tratamiento de ortodoncia se ha convertido en algo común, pero se desconoce por qué algunos de estos pacientes se rehúsan a quitarse la aparatología de sus bocas. En este orden de ideas, posterior a una exhaustiva revisión en diferentes fuentes de investigación se puede afirmar, que hasta este momento no se encontró ningún estudio referente a la percepción sobre el uso de ortodoncia correctiva en jóvenes desertores del tratamiento pero que aún conservan la aparatología fija en boca. Objetivo: describir la percepción sobre el uso de ortodoncia correctiva en jóvenes desertores del tratamiento que aún conservan la aparatología fija en boca de Mérida-Venezuela. Materiales y Métodos: Este estudio es de tipo descriptivo, diseño transeccional, contemporáneo de campo, multivariable de caso, basado en el enfoque cualitativo. Se realizó la técnica de la entrevista a un grupo de 4 informantes portadores de aparatología fija para recolectar los datos. Para el análisis, se empleó el método de comparación constante combinado con la triangulación de datos. Resultados: Se encontró que la percepción de los informantes en relación con el uso del tratamiento de ortodoncia persigue aspectos estéticos, de embellecimiento y decoración; esto a su vez tiene una proyección social que les genera la idea de estatus social elevado, siendo una de las motivaciones para conservar la aparatología fija. Conclusión: estos jóvenes perciben el uso de ortodoncia correctiva como un factor que los ayuda a tener éxito social.

Introduction: In recent years, the abandonment of orthodontic treatment has be-come common, but it is unknown why some of these patients refuse to remove the appliances from their mouths. After an exhaustive review in different research sources, it can be affirmed that up to this moment no study was found regarding the perception of the use of corrective orthodontics in young dropouts of the treatment but who still have the equipment fixed in the mouth. Objective: to de-scribe the perception of the use of corrective orthodontics in young dropouts of the treatment who still have fixed appliances in the mouth of Mérida-Venezuela. Materials and Methods: It is a qualitative, descriptive, cross-sectional study. The interview technique was performed on a group of 4 informants carrying fixed orthodontics appliances to collect the data. For the analysis and results, the constant comparison method combined with the data triangulation was used. Results: It was found that the perception of the informants in relation to the use of the orthodontic treatment pursues aesthetic, embellishment and decoration aspects; Results: it was found that it has a social projection that generates the idea of high social status, being one of the motivations for conserving fixed appliances. Conclusion: These young people perceive the use of corrective orthodontics as a factor that helps them to have social success.
