Qué hacen las preposiciones en las perífrasis

Abstract

En este artículo nos ocupamos de la naturaleza del llamado nexo de las perífrasis, y específicamente de los casos que son aparentemente preposiciones (ir a + infinitivo, dejar de + infinitivo). Mostraremos a través de una serie de pruebas que no cabe considerarlos formas fosilizadas que aparecen por un motivo de idiosincrasia léxica; antes bien, es posible establecer una serie de generalizaciones no triviales sobre su distribución y su papel. Argumentaremos, a partir de estas generalizaciones, que el nexo preposicional debe considerarse una manifestación de un núcleo aspectual que permite hacer una transición entre el dominio donde se define la estructura argumental y el dominio donde se introduce información temporal y modal.

In this article we address the nature of the so-called 'periphrastic link', and specifically the cases that seem to be prepositional due to their form (ir a + infinitivo 'go to + infinitive', dejar de + infinitivo 'leave of + infinitive'). We will show through a number of tests that they cannot be considered fossilised forms that appear within the periphrasis just due to some lexical idiosyncrasy; instead, there are several non-trivial generalisations with respect to their distribution and the roles they play. Starting from these generalisations, we will argue that the prepositional link should be viewed as an aspectual head that makes the clause transition between the domain where argument relations are defined and tghe domain where temporoaspectual and modal information are introduced
