Rehabilitación oral de paciente comprometido sistémicamente mediante prótesis fija maxilar y prótesis hibrida mandibular. Reporte de caso

Abstract

El presente artículo muestra el caso de un paciente de sexo masculino de 80 años de edad que acude a consulta por disconformidad estética y funcional, con diagnóstico de diabetes, enfermedad periodontal y antecedentes de radioterapia por carcinoma de próstata. El paciente presentaba prótesis fija maxilar en mal estado y un reborde mandibular en forma de filo de cuchillo con delgado ancho buco-lingual. Se le realizó la eliminación de bolsas periodontales, alargamiento de corona clínica y rehabilitación con prótesis fija metal cerámica en la arcada superior, mientras que en la arcada inferior se procedió con la colocación de implantes con superficie activada y rehabilitación mediante una prótesis híbrida sobre estructura de titanio. El objetivo de este reporte de caso es presentar el manejo y rehabilitación de un paciente de edad avanzada que presentaba condiciones sistémicas desfavorables.

The present article shows the case of a male patient of 80 years-old who came to consultation referring aesthetic and functional discomfort. The patient came with diabetes, periodontal disease diagnosis and a history of prostate carcinoma radiotherapy. The patient had a fixed maxillary prosthesis in poor condition and a knife- edge ridge with a very narrow buccolingual width in the mandible. Scaling and root planning, crown lengthening and a fixed metal ceramic rehabilitation in the upper jaw were performed while in the lower jaw a titanium superstructure and hybrid prosthesis rehabilitation were placed over activated dental implants surface. The objective of this case report is to present the management and rehabilitation of an elderly patient who presented unfavorable systemic conditions.
