RUTAS ANCESTRALES DE LOS ANDES DE MÉRIDA: UNA VISIÓN DE ECOTURISMO HISTÓRICO

Abstract

Las vías de comunicación terrestre conocidas generalmente como “Caminos Reales”, sostenían las relaciones comerciales y económicas de la época prehispánica y colonial existente en los altos Andes merideños. Se reconocen varios recorridos de los poblamientos indígenas que comunicaban a Mérida con los Llanos barineses y con el Lago de Maracaibo. Los caminos ancestrales más importantes y de gran interés ecoturístico histórico, son los caminos reales del Charal –Tucaní, Torondoy, El Quinó y el de Los Andes o Niquitao. Siendo las localidades claves; Mucuchíes, Mérida, Apartaderos y el puerto lacustre de Gibraltar.

The terrestrial communication routes generally known as “Royal Roads”, sustained the commercial and economic relations of the pre- Hispanic and colonial times existing in the high Andes of Merida. Several routes of the indigenous settlements are recognized that communicated to Merida with the Barinases Plains and with the Lake of Maracaibo. The most important ancestral roads and of great historical ecotourism interest are the royal roads of Charal - Tucaní, Torondoy, El Quinó and Los Andes or Niquitao, being Mucuchíes, Mérida, Apartaderos and the lacustrine port of Gibraltar, key locations.
