Oportunidades de los graduados universitarios en el mercado laboral mexicano: Diferencias por sexo y formación

Abstract

El objetivo del trabajo es analizar el mercado laboral de los graduados universitarios mexicanos para identificar oportunidades de empleo e ingresos, por sexo y campo formativo. Se utiliza los datos de la Encuesta Nacional de Ocupación y Empleo para estimar un modelo de autoselección de Heckman, dos modelos de salarios para hombres y mujeres, y un modelo probit para estimar la probabilidad de estar empleado. Las principales conclusiones indican que las mujeres eligen en mayor medida que los hombres la opción de no trabajar y existen diferencias en las oportunidades de empleo e ingresos por campo formativo y sexo. De forma resumida, los campos formativos con mayores oportunidades de empleo para los hombres son Ciencias de la Computación, Ciencias de la Información, y Artes; en términos de ingresos, los hombres ganan más en Servicios de Transporte, Servicios de Seguridad, y Ciencias Físicas, Químicas y de la Tierra. En el caso de las mujeres, las mayores oportunidades de empleo están en Ciencias de la Computación, Formación Docente, y Veterinaria; en cuanto a los ingresos, ganan más en Matemáticas y Estadística, Salud, Ingeniería Industrial, Mecánica, Electrónica y Tecnológica, y Formación Docente. Además, las mujeres perciben mayores ingresos cuando están casadas, son cabezas de familia y tienen un nivel educativo alto.

The aim of this paper is to analyse the job market of Mexican university graduates to identify employment and income opportunities, by gender and training field. Data from the National Occupation and Employment Survey is used to estimate a Heckman self-selection model, two wage models for men and women, and a probit model to estimate the probability of being employed. The main conclusions indicate that women self-select more the option of not working and there are differences in employment opportunities and income by training field and gender. In summary, the training fields with the greatest employment opportunities for men are Computer Science, Information Sciences, and Arts; in terms of income, men earn more in Transportation Services, Security Services, and Physical, Chemical and Earth Sciences. In the case of women, the greatest employment opportunities are in Computer Science, Teacher Training, and Veterinary Science; in terms of income, they earn more in Mathematics and Statistics, Health, Industrial Engineering, Mechanics, Electronics and Technology, and Teacher Training. Additionally, women receive higher incomes when they are married, are heads of family and have a high educational level.
