ENTRE LA TRADICIÓN Y LA VANGUARDIA: LAS FUENTES DECIMONÓNICAS DE LA PEDAGOGÍA BAUHAUS DE WEIMAR

Abstract

Partiendo de la naturaleza no-monolítica de la Bauhaus, el presente artículo se centra en su período de Weimar y la influencia ejercida en su pedagogía por las ideas decimonónicas sobre la educación del diseño provenientes de Gran Bretaña y Francia. Con este fin, se evalúan las contribuciones teóricas y prácticas del pensamiento educativo del siglo XIX, vinculándolas a los puntos de vista, programas y prácticas docentes de la Bauhaus de Weimar y sus Maestros de la Forma. El artículo concluye que: (1) dada la tardía incorporación de Alemania a la Revolución Industrial era difícil no inspirarse en los logros de sus competidores económicos, y (2) en su intento por escapar del influjo de la tradición, la Bauhaus terminó convirtiéndose en una tradición para el diseño contemporáneo.

Standing on the non-monolithic nature of the Bauhaus, the present article focuses on its Weimar period and the influence exerted on its pedagogy by the 19th-century educational ideas on design from Great Britain and France. To this aim the theoretical and practical contributions from the 19th-century educational thinking are assessed and associated to the particular views, programs and teaching practices of the Weimar Bauhaus and its Masters of Form. The article concludes that: (1) given the late incorporation of Germany to the Industrial Revolution it was hard not to be inspired by her economic competitors, and (2) in its attempt to escape the influx of tradition, the Bauhaus ended up becoming a tradition for contemporary design.
