socioculturales (confianza, compromiso y lealtad). Despite the tradition of Local Productive Systems
(LPS) and its proven usefulness, in some sociocultural
contexts they don’t achieve the desired
effects in terms of promoting cooperation among the
companies involved. The results of a recent study
conducted in the Lucena LPS point in this direction.
Why do not companies cooperate as would be
desirable? What are the causes of not doing so? To
this end, we have reviewed the existing theory on
industrial districts and, within these, on the Local
Productive Systems, as well as a review of the
previous studies on the Lucena LPS. After that we
have proposed a mixed design case study
(quantitative/qualitative). After analyzing the
information obtained in the fieldwork, these main
causes have been identified: (1) the lack of
institutional impulse, and (2) the crisis of certain
sociocultural values (trust, commitment and loyalty).
