Relación entre el gasto en Ciencia y Tecnología y el Producto Interno Bruto. Un análisis empírico entre América Latina y el Caribe y el Ecuador

Abstract

Este documento evalúa la relación entre el gasto en Ciencia y Tecnología (CyT) y el Producto Interno Bruto (PIB) entre América Latina y el Caribe, y Ecuador desde 1990 a 2015. Se comprobó la no estacionariedad de las variables, obteniendo un modelo VAR de dos variables con cuatro rezagos óptimos – VAR2(4) y otro con cinco – VAR2(5). Las pruebas de causalidad demostraron unidireccionalidad por parte del CyT al PIB en Ecuador y no relación causal de América Latina y el Caribe.

This document evaluates the relationship between spending on Science and Technology (S & T) and the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) between Latin America and the Caribbean, and Ecuador from 1990 to 2015. The nonstationarity of the variables was verified, obtaining a VAR model of two variables with four optimal lags - VAR2 (4) and another with five - VAR2 (5). The causality tests showed a unidirectionality on the part of S & T to GDP in Ecuador and not causal relationship in Latin America and the Caribbean.
