INTRODUCTION. Due to the increase in acute renal failure (ARF) in newborns (NB), it is important to detect the risk factors for ARF by ensuring the early diagnosis and progress of ARF. This is why a new RIFLEn modality is proposed where urinary volume is considered in a time interval adapted to the physiological conditions of the RN having wide acceptance in the global nephrological community MATERIALS AND METHODS. We reviewed clinical histories of newborns admitted to IAHULA during the period 2010-2015, applying an observational descriptive retrospective case series, the data were analyzed using the SPSS 22 program, using the chi-square statistical method RESULTS 60 RN was studied population 1.53% with respect to the total 3500 RN. The FRA was predominant in: male, NB at term without low weight, 63.33% RN APGAR test> 7 points, 68.33% required mechanical ventilation, 73.34% maternal complications during pregnancy, 56.66% of RN received more than 4 antibiotics, 65% of RN did not merit vasoactive, 50% did not present congenital malformation, 86.67% more frequent diagnosis of sepsis. Only 25% of newborns died. CONCLUSIONS In the predominant study, the FRA stage of risk (R) according to RIFLEn, according to the intrinsic FRA etiology, according to non-ligurile FRA urinary volume, referring to oliguric and non-oliguric FRA risk factors, the results were not statistically significant, invasive type mechanical ventilation is a risk factor for presenting ARF with OR 3.98 p 0.035 CI 1.06-10.72.
