LA ANTROPOLOGÍA BIOLÓGICA EN AMÉRICA LATINA Y EL CARIBE: AVANCES Y PERSPECTIVAS

Abstract

Se aborda el surgimiento y evolución de la Antropología Biológica como ciencia en América Latina y el Caribe, las escuelas de formación, sus principales investigadores, los problemas de investigación en el ámbito de las sociedades prehispánicas, como el tema del poblamiento temprano de América y la salud de las sociedades antiguas. Se destaca el papel que ha jugado la Antropología Forense en la búsqueda e identificación de los desaparecidos por diferentes conflictos en los países latinoamericanos. Se concluye que esta disciplina ha aportado de manera significativa al conocimiento del pasado y presente de la variabilidad biológica de nuestras poblaciones.

It addresses the emergence and evolution of Biological Anthropology as in Latin America and the Caribbean, training schools, its main researchers, research problems in the field of pre-Hispanic societies, such as the issue of the early settlement of America and health of ancient societies. The role that forensic anthropology has played in the search and identification of those disappeared due to different conflicts in Latin American countries is highlighted. It is concluded that this discipline has contributed significantly to the knowledge of the past and present of the biological variability of our populations.
