COVID19 EN ECUADOR: ANÁLISIS DESCRIPTIVO DE LAS PROVINCIAS Y CIUDADES MÁS AFECTADAS.

Abstract

Ecuador se ha convertido en uno de los países con mayor número de contagios de COVID19 en Sudamérica, a pesar de los esfuerzos del Gobierno por controlar el número de contagios estos se han incrementado de forma exponencial. El objetivo de este estudio es describir la evolución del número de contagios en las provincias de Guayas, Pichincha y sus capitales, período 13 de marzo – 20 de abril de 2020. Es un estudio descriptivo, con diseño transversal, se utilizó información oficial publicada por los organismos gubernamentales del país, así como también información publicada por la Organización Mundial de la Salud. Los resultados indican que las provincias más afectadas son Guayas y Pichincha con 6921 y 841 casos confirmados respectivamente, siendo sus capitales Guayaquil y Quito las ciudades que registran el mayor número de contagios 5168 y 777 casos correspondientemente. La tasa de mortalidad del COVID19 en Ecuador es de 2,90 por cada 100 mil habitantes, lo que es superior a las de países como Brasil, Estados Unidos y China; la tasa de letalidad es de 5,01%, incidencia de 57,94 por cada 100 mil habitantes, las cuales son inferiores a las registradas por España, Francia e Italia. Se recomienda al Gobierno de Ecuador y los entes gubernamentales competentes, el ajuste de políticas públicas que aseguren el acceso a la salud de la población; y, que promuevan su bienestar económico y laboral.

Ecuador has become one of the countries with the highest number of COVID19 infections in South America, despite the Government's efforts to control the number of infections, these have increased exponentially. The objective of this study is to describe the evolution of the number of infections in the provinces of Guayas, Pichincha and their capitals, period March 13 April 20, 2020. It is a descriptive study, with crosssectional design, official information published by the country's government agencies, as well as, information published by the World Health Organization. The results indicate that the most affected provinces are Guayas and Pichincha with 6921 and 841 confirmed cases, respectively, with Guayaquil and Quito being the cities with the highest number of infections, 5168 and 777 cases, correspondingly. The COVID19 mortality rate in Ecuador is 2.90 per 100,000 inhabitants, which is higher than in Brazil, the United States, and China; the case fatality rate is 5.01%, an incidence of 57.94 per 100,000 inhabitants, which are lower than those registered by Spain, France and Italy. The Government of Ecuador and the competent government entities are recommended to adjust public policies that ensure access to health for the population; and, that promote their economic and labor wellbeing.
