LOS NEOPACIENTES: UNA EMERGENTE GENERACIÓN DE PACIENTES.

Abstract

El paciente, el sujeto pasivo por tradición de la práctica clínica se está reconfigurando a la par de los recientes cambios tecnológicos. Este trabajo documental busca abrir una reflexión acerca de los neopacientes, una nueva generación de pacientes, cuyo espacio social son los entornos tecnológicos. Estos emergen en un mundo informatizado e interconectado globalmente, son críticos, dan valor a lo nuevo, utilizan las tecnologías emergentes para el cuidado de su salud, se autoeducan de forma autónoma, tienden a lo creativo, conciben lugares virtuales para encuentro y difusión de información, y asume el papel protagónico de su propio proceso de atención y cuidado, rompiendo con lo tradicional. En los espacios virtuales puede satisfacer ciertas necesidades: a) información: se autoeducan en Internet, con un marcado interés por aquellos contenidos de carácter biomédico relacionados con la enfermedad, signos, síntomas, tratamientos, entre otros; b) apoyo: se interesan por conocer las experiencias de los otros con la enfermedad, por su ayuda y consejos; c) reconocimiento: tienden a reconocerse y agruparse en comunidades virtuales, en círculos de intimidad, que refieren cada vez más a lo estético, a lo afectivo; d) participación: son individuos activos que buscan ejercer sus derechos, participar activamente en las tomas de decisiones que atañen a su salud, su vida, y a su grupo social. Se convoca a estudiar al neopaciente desde una mirada que trascienda los métodos objetivos y reduccionistas, para llegar a su esencia, indagar en su subjetividad, y orientar al profesional en la comprensión de este paciente que asume un nuevo rol, como también en la adecuación del propio a los nuevos tiempos.

The patient, the passive subject by tradition of clinical practice, is reconfiguring along with recent technological changes. This documentary work seeks to open a reflection about the neopacient, a new generation of patients, whose social space is the technological environments. They emerge in a globally computerized and interconnected world, they are critical, they give value to the new, they use emerging technologies for their health care, they selfeducate themselves autonomously, they tend to the creative, they conceive virtual places to find and disseminate information, and assumes the leading role of its own process of attention and care, breaking with the traditional. In the virtual spaces, they meet certain needs: a) information: they selfeducate themselves on the Internet, with a marked interest in those biomedical contents related to the disease, signs, symptoms, treatments, among others; b) support: they are interested in knowing the experiences of others with the disease, by their help and advice; c) recognition: they tend to be recognized and grouped in virtual communities, in circles of intimacy, which refer more and more to the aesthetic, to the affective; d) participation: they are active individuals who seek to exercise their rights, participate actively in decisionmaking that concerns their health, their life, and their social group. It is called to study the neopatient from a perspective that transcends objective and reductionist methods, to reach its essence, investigate its subjectivity, and guide the professional in the understanding of this patient who assumes a new role, as well as adapting his own to the new era.
