dc.descriptionEn los Andes venezolanos, la expansión de la frontera agropecuaria amenaza la biodiversidad típica del páramo y de los bosques altoandinos, la cual es vulnerable por encontrarse en una extensión territorial tan pequeña. Por ser las aves excelentes bioindicadores de diversidad, las hemos utilizado para diagnosticar el estado de conservación de las cuencas altas de los ríosChama, Motatán y Santo Domingo, quienes presentan condiciones climáticas contrastantes (valles intramontanos secos los dos primeros y húmedo el último). Para ello, seleccionamos 9 especies objetos de conservación, a partir de una lista de avesmobtenida a través de revisión bibliográfica y de colecciones biológicas. Encontramos que las especies asociadas a ecosistemas de páramo, son las que presentan el mayor grado de conservación de sus hábitat, mientras que las asociadas a los ecosistemas boscosos, están más desprotegidas, junto con las especies asociadas a los ríos. De las tres cuencas evaluadas, la del río Santo Domingo es la que presenta el mayor estado de conservación, seguida por la del río Motatán y por último por la del río Chama. Encontramos argumentos que respaldan la clasificación de las especies Merganetta armata y Hapalopsittaca amazonina, como especies vulnerable y en peligro de extinción en Venezuela respectivamente.es-ES
dc.descriptionThe expansion of the agricultural frontier in the Venezuelan Andes threatens the biodiversity of Páramo and highland forests. These ecosystems are already vulnerable due to their small extensions. Since birds are excellent biodiversity bioindicators, used this for to diagnose the conservation status of the upper watersheds of the Chama, Motatán and Santo Domingo rivers, which have contrasting climatic conditions (the first two dry mountain valleys and the latter a wet mountain valley). Using a list of birds obtained from both literature and biological collection reviews, we selected 9 conservation target species. We found that species associated to the Páramo ecosystems showed the highest degree of habitat conservation, while those associated to forests and rivers were the most vulnerable. Of the three watersheds evaluated, the Santo Domingo river had the highest conservation status, followed by the River and the Chama River. We find arguments that support the classification of the species Merganetta armata as vulnerable and Hapalopsittaca amazonina as endangered in Venezuela.en-US
