El mito de la belleza mestiza como tecnología de género colonialista

Abstract

El ejercicio del poder colonial y patriarcal sobre las mujeres indígenas genera diversos sistemas y métodos de control, siendo el mito de la belleza mestiza una de las estrategias más subestimada -pero eficaz- en la construcción de una subjetividad colonizada. En esta ponencia disertaré sobre la “belleza mestiza” como el ideal estético promovido por la ideología del mestizaje, un modelo que actúa como tecnología de género colonialista para garantizar la reproducción de la vergüenza étnica y el blanqueamiento de las mujeres indígenas.

The use of colonial and patriarchal power under indigenous women generates diverse systems and methods of control, and the most underestimated strategy -but effective- in the construction of a colonized subjectivity is the myth of the mixed-race beauty. In this paper I will talk about the “mixed-race beauty” as the aesthetic ideal promoted by the ideology of miscegenation, a model that works as colonialist gendered technology to guarantee the reproduction of ethnic shame and the whitening of indigenous woman.
