La maternidad: cuestión de poder

Abstract

La facultad de las mujeres de reproducir, albergar y alimentar a la especie humana le permitió al patriarcado imponerles las labores de cuidado y crianza mediante la creación e institucionalización de la Maternidad, a través de normas, leyes y reglas establecidas en torno a la palabra “madre”, de acuerdo con la cultura hegemónica; es así como el “deber ser” de las “buenas madres” se sostiene en los discursos morales, médicos y valores éticos-religiosos que se disfrazan en nuestras sociedades para mantener el control sobre la reproducción y el cuerpo de las mujeres, necesario para la explotación de las mismas.

The power of women to reproduce, shelter, and nourish the human species allowed the patriarchy to impose on them the care and upbringing through the creation and institutionalization of the Maternity, through norms, laws and rules established around the word “Mother”, according to the hegemonic culture, is how the “must be” of the “good mothers” is sustained in moral discourses, medical and ethical-religious values disguised in our societies to maintain control over the reproduction and the body of women necessary for the exploitation of them.
